From the Field: a 40 t Gantry Crane for Egypt
How an export project was split for shipping, container-planned and sequenced for site erection.
Ervan Cranes Engineering
A 40 t gantry crane does not ship in one piece. The critical stage of the project is splitting girders and legs to container dimensions and designing the flanged joints that will be reassembled on site.
Shipping plan
Main girder, legs and travel groups are packed separately; every part is numbered and matched to the erection drawing. The hoist and electrical panel travel in a separate humidity-protected crate.
Erection sequence on site
Start with rail alignment and span measurement; stand the legs, lift the girder into place with a mobile crane, torque the flange bolts. After electrical connection and control tests, a staged load test is run and the handover report signed. How static and dynamic load tests are run, and which documents you should receive at handover, is explained in our guide to overhead crane installation and commissioning.
Because the team that designed the crane erects it, every question on site goes to the person who drew it. On export projects that saves weeks. What to settle on standards, shipping, erection and spare parts before ordering from an overhead crane manufacturer in Turkey is covered in our export guide.
